The Lax easy chair concept was the result of a Nature to Furniture assignment where inspiration had to be taken from nature and used to design a piece of furniture.

The ideation for this piece came from a visit to the botanical gardens in Melbourne. There were many different species of palms, the geometric shapes of the leaves themselves and also the shapes and lines of the crossing palm fronds led to the inspiration for this chair. The plan was to create an outdoor easy chair, something that would embody a tropical feeling and layback lifestyle.

The profile of the chair came from the way the leaves crossed over each other creating certain lines and the seat and back slat design was taken directly from a palm frond.

The design was modeled and rendered in Solidworks.
